Hives at the catstle

It is with great pleasure that we introduce our new residents of Urspelt Castle! There is great excitement in the castle.

Since May 2021, the castle has not only been looking after the hotel guests but also two beehives, which are populated by around 30,000 bees.

In summer, the colony will reach a size of about 100,000 inhabitants.

The bees spend most of their lives not as ” collectors” but in the darkness of the hive as only 2-3% of the bees leave the hive to collect pollen.

In cooperation with Hugo Zeler, a beekeeper from Luxembourg, local honey will be available at Urspelt Castle in the future.

The Hunnegkëscht apiary offers a friendly breed of bees suitable for both children and adults.

The installation of the two beehives promotes the protection of the endangered bees and strengthens our eco-label philosophy, which has been in place at the castle for several years.

Honey is not only good for your health, it also tastes delicious! In the kitchen, honey is a multifunctional ingredient that can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes.

The conservation and sustainable use of bees serves the well-being of all and offers great ecological benefits!
